Hello, my name is Duwi. This time, I want to share a story about my parents’ trip to Kampung Coklat in Blitar. Even though I didn’t go with them, I know the story from my own perspective because they told me a lot about it after they came home.
On Friday night before going to bed, my parents told me that the next day they would go on a trip with their friends. They planned to leave together in one car. That night, they had already prepared to bring fried tofu with petis (a savory sauce). I offered to help my mom fry the tofu so she wouldn’t get too tired.
On Saturday morning, around 4:00 a.m., I woke up early to fry the tofu while my parents got ready. After I finished, it was my mom’s turn to make the petis. At exactly 5:00 a.m., my father and mother said goodbye and left. They walked to a friend’s house, which was the meeting point for the group.
That evening, when they came home, they shared their stories in great detail. Before arriving at Kampung Coklat, they stopped at a small food stall for breakfast. My dad said he was so hungry that he ate two bowls of soto, while the others only had one. After that, they also bought dawet (a traditional sweet drink). My father laughed as he told me he even drank two glasses.
When they finally reached Kampung Coklat, they spent quite a long time there. They walked around the cacao plantation and also visited the chocolate processing factory. Of course, they didn’t forget to buy some chocolate products to bring home as souvenirs.
After that, their trip continued to the Tomb of Bung Karno, where they prayed and spent some time walking around the area, which was crowded with street vendors. From there, my parents bought me a pair of batik-patterned pants as a gift.
On the way back home, the group stopped at Karangkates Dam. There, they enjoyed fried wader fish. According to my parents, it tasted delicious, but when I tried it, I thought it was a bit salty. Still, they brought some fried wader fish home for me as a souvenir.
